Capita Travel and Events confirms Cyber Essentials Accreditation
14 August 2015
Capita Travel and Events has gained Cyber Essentials, the accreditation of a government-backed scheme to help organisations protect themselves and customers against common cyber attacks.
The accreditation demonstrates that Capita Travel and Events is committed to maintaining robust cyber security - the technologies, processes and practices designed to protect networks, computers, programs and data from attack, damage or unauthorised access.
Stories of organisations exposing customers’ information to cyber threats continue to be reported in the media. Standards such as Cyber Essentials offer businesses the confidence to distinguish between organisations that are implementing basic cyber security controls from those that are not.
Ian Carron, Chief Information Officer, Capita Travel and Events, said: “One of the most challenging aspects of cyber security is the speed at which the risks can change. An all too common approach to its management is to spend time and resources on protecting against the biggest threats. But this can leave businesses undefended against the most common forms of threats, coming from the Internet. Cyber Essentials focuses, in particular, on these smaller threats which require low levels of attacker skill, and which are widely available online.
“Along with Capita Travel and Events’ ISO 27001 Information Security Management certification, our Cyber Essentials accreditation confirms that we are continuing to invest in risk management at all levels, to protect customer information.”
The UK Government worked with industry to develop the Cyber Essentials Scheme, which focuses on basic cyber hygiene. Information Assurance for Small and Medium Enterprises, (IASME), Information Security Forum (ISF), and the British Standards Institution collaborated on its development.
