Event health and safety expertise essential says Capita Travel and Events
10 April 2014
More event managers expect and need health and safety expertise from their agencies, according to Capita Travel and Events. It claims that in the age of the Corporate Manslaughter Act, health and safety expertise in events is now an essential part of the event industry’s continued growth.
Jason Cardy, an events manager at Capita Travel and Events recently achieved the globally recognised General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health from the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health. He said, “Organisations need to comply with the law and to make sure employees, customers and delegates are not exposed to unnecessary hazards before, during and after their events. Health and safety does not have to be complicated but the detail in the planning should be balanced with the scale of the event and the risk involved. For large scale creative events including anything from multiple contractors and audio-visual equipment to building temporary structures and technical staging, extensive planning is required to organise, manage and monitor the event to limit risks.”
Jason was among experts who presented advice on managing health and safety for events at Capita Travel and Events’ event directors’ forum on 10 April. In its eighth year, the bi-annual forum brings together the agency’s customers to discuss key subjects impacting event planners and the industry.
Kim Collins, Director of Events, Capita Travel and Events, said: “Customers are increasingly asking us for advice and expertise on health and safety. They want assurances that we can help with the policy planning and practical risk management of their events, exhibitions and conferences. Putting team members through globally recognised health and safety certifications demonstrates how seriously we treat the subject and how we are listening to our customers’ and industry’s changing needs and expectations.”
